A light-controlled thyristor is a thyristor that is triggered by an optical signal or a photoelectric signal. Its symbol is shown in Figure 1. The characteristic of the light-controlled thyristor is that a photodiode is integrated in the gate region, and the trigger signal source is insulated from the main loop. The key point is that the trigger sensitivity is high. The trigger current of the gate of the light-controlled thyristor is provided by photo-generated carriers in the device. A positive pressure is applied between the anode and the cathode of the light-controlled thyristor, and if the gate region is irradiated with light of a certain wavelength, the light-controlled thyristor is turned from the off state to the on state. In order to improve the trigger sensitivity of the light-controlled thyristor, the gate region often adopts an enlarged gate structure or a double-amplified gate structure. In order to meet the high re-voltage rise rate, the cathode emitter short circuit structure is often used.
